Message The dis-advantage of removing the VTC sprockets on a 500HP Z is either loosing 80 ft lbs torque, or loosing about 50HP.
If you go with keeping the 80 ft lbs torque, your idle will be poor and the engine will die coming to a stop.
The old dis-advantage of keeping the VTC was that the stock VTC sprockets would fail and become noisey in 5 to 10K miles of installing heavy duty valve springs and higher lift cams.
Now that BDE has made stronger VTC sprockets available, there is not a down side.
The advantage of keeping the VTC, it allows you to retain the wide power band and good idle.
